With the holidays around the corner, many people are preparing to travel to spend time with family and friends. Hearing loss patients can take the following steps to help ensure that stress over hearing aids doesn’t detract from the festivities.
Make Sure Your Hearing Aids Have Enough Power
Approximately 28.8 million U.S. adults could benefit from hearing aids. Having your devices run out of power may mean missing conversations with loved ones around the dinner table. You can make sure this doesn’t happen by packing enough batteries to last the duration of your trip or bring an adaptor if you’re traveling abroad and wear rechargeable hearing aids.
Don’t Let Your Devices Get Damaged
To keep your hearing aids safe during your travels, consider packing the following:
- A case to put them in whenever you aren’t wearing them
- Cleaning kit
- A dehumidifier, if you’re visiting a location with increased humidity
Wear Your Hearing Aids At Airport Security
You might be concerned about wearing your hearing aids while going through TSA security, but metal detectors or x-ray equipment will not damage your devices. If you’re worried, you can let your TSA agent know that you’re wearing them.
If you do opt to take your hearing aids off while flying, pack them in your carryon luggage to make sure they don’t end up lost if your checked bag doesn’t make it to your location.
Take Your Devices for a Tune-Up
Prior to traveling, you may want to bring your hearing aids for a clean and check appointment. Our audiologists can ensure they are working properly so you can fully participate in every holiday conversation.
