At our practice, we believe that hearing care extends far beyond the walls of the clinic. Hearing is about connection — to music, conversation, theater, film, worship, education, and the shared experiences that bring communities together. That is why we are actively working to bring Auracast™ broadcast audio technology to venues throughout Maine and beyond.
With the generous support of Starkey Hearing Technologies, we are helping local theaters, performance spaces, community organizations, and public venues implement Auracast systems by purchasing and providing broadcast transmitters and assisting with planning and implementation.
What Is Auracast™?
Auracast™ is a new Bluetooth® broadcast audio technology designed to make public listening more accessible, flexible, and inclusive.
In a venue equipped with Auracast, audio from a performance, presentation, movie, lecture, or worship service can be transmitted directly to compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds, headphones, or dedicated receivers — delivering clear, high-quality sound directly to the listener.
Much like connecting to a public Wi-Fi network, users can simply select the Auracast broadcast on their compatible device and instantly hear the audio with improved clarity and reduced background noise.
Why This Matters
For millions of people with hearing loss, even the best hearing aids can struggle in difficult listening environments such as theaters, auditoriums, lecture halls, and large gathering spaces. Background noise, distance from the speaker, and room acoustics can make understanding speech exhausting and frustrating.
Auracast has the potential to transform accessibility by:
- Improving speech understanding in noisy public spaces
- Reducing listening fatigue
- Allowing patrons to enjoy performances and events with greater confidence
- Supporting both individuals with hearing loss and those without hearing loss
- Providing a modern, scalable alternative to older assistive listening technologies
- Increasing accessibility while preserving the experience and atmosphere of the venue
Most importantly, Auracast helps ensure that people remain connected to the cultural and community experiences that enrich everyday life.
Our Commitment
As an audiologist, I believe accessibility should not be an afterthought. Our goal is to help communities embrace emerging technology that improves communication and inclusion for everyone.
We are proud to collaborate with local venues and organizations to expand access to Auracast technology and to help educate the public about the future of assistive listening.
By working together with community leaders, venue staff, and industry partners such as Starkey Hearing Technologies, we hope to make accessible listening a standard feature in the places where people gather, learn, and celebrate.
